What is hand printing?

A term used for machine printing, which is a type of dyeing method. Using a paper pattern lined with silk gauze, the dye is applied in a smooth motion with a bamboo spatula onto the board-covered fabric. The dye is in the form of a paste, and when applied with a bamboo spatula to a paper pattern placed on top of the fabric, the dye is applied to the fabric by the thickness of the paper pattern, passing through the silk gauze. In the same way, shift the paper patterns one after another and dye. After the dye is fixed, the next step is to dye the fabric with a different color using a different paper pattern. In this way, the pattern is dyed repeatedly using paper patterns for the number of colors of the pattern to be dyed. Since ancient times, Yuzen dyeing in Kyoto has been famous as a typical hand-printed textile, but it is also used not only for Japanese kimono fabrics, but also for printed neckties and handkerchiefs.
