The realism of instruments created by the artisan's hand
The secret of the details is the ink finish
Processed and finished by artisans in East Tokyo
The instrument brooches and keychains from MUSIC FOR LIVING are still processed and finished by artisans' hands, one by one, in the manufacturing town of East Tokyo.
Currently, the lineup includes standard brooches and all-music keychains, but over the 50 years since production began, the variety has increased to a total of 25 types of instruments.
This time, we would like to introduce the dedication involved in the processing and finishing still done by artisans' hands.
Reflection Processing
This is a processing method that presses brass material with strong force against a mold, transferring the pattern engraved in the mold onto the metal.
At this time, a unique machine called a reflection press is used, which is why it is commonly referred to as reflection. The details are pressed into the brass material with the first mold, and then the outline is pressed and removed with a different mold.
After that, the product is polished and subjected to plating.
Inking Finish
To clearly showcase the intricate details of the instrument, an additional step of inking is added to the finish.
Ink, called sumi, is applied to the surface and then wiped off one by one with a cloth.
The ink remains in the gaps, making the light and dark of the mold more distinct and adding depth to the instrument.
Due to the handwork of the craftsmen, there may be individual differences in the way the ink remains, but this finish, which retains the nuances of hand finishing, has been continued for 50 years in the downtown area of Tokyo.
The craftsmanship is still present.
Through these processes, the realistic details of the instruments are completed and commercialized.
In the manufacturing town of East Tokyo, the handwork of craftsmen creates products with a commitment to quality.
